FIT Competition

Mid-Atlantic Capital Cardiology Symposium Best Poster and Young Investigator’s Awards Competitions

Fellows in Training (FIT) and Cardiovascular Team members (CV Team) are invited to submit research abstracts and educational case reports to the Mid-Atlantic Capital Cardiology Symposium (MACCS) to be held on November 22, 2020 via Zoom. Submitted research abstracts will be considered for the Mid-Atlantic Capital Best Poster Contest. In addition, research abstracts submitted by FITs will also be considered for the Mid-Atlantic Capital Young Investigator’s Award (CYIA) competition. The Mid-Atlantic Capital Best Poster and CYIA competitions are sponsored by the American College of Cardiology’s (ACC) Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia Chapters and the ACC Governors for the Public Health Service, Department of Defense and the District of Columbia.

Eligible Competitors
All adult and pediatric cardiology fellows, who are enrolled  in a training program in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia and provided they have been a fellow since July 1, 2019, are eligible to enter the Mid-Atlantic Capital Best Poster competition. Research abstracts submitted by FITs will also be considered for the Mid-Atlantic CYIA competition.

Timing and Abstract Submission
Abstracts are to be submitted via Oxford Abstracts by September 24, 2020 using this link.

Abstracts may represent work in progress or may have been previously submitted for presentation at a national meeting in 2020. Each FIT can submit more than one research abstract, but no more than three as first author. No submissions of work already published in a journal will be accepted. Abstracts submitted to this regional competition are not precluded from submission for future national presentation.

Abstract Review, Selection and Notification
All submitted abstracts will be reviewed by a select panel of physicians. Up to three finalists will be nominated for the CYIA competition (divided between the basic-preclinical category and the translational-clinical category) and they will be invited to give an oral slide presentation at the annual meeting. Abstracts not chosen for CYIA presentation may still qualify to be exhibited virtually. CYIA finalists and poster exhibitors will be notified on or after October 21, 2020.

Mid-Atlantic CYIA Presentation Session
The CYIA finalists will present their research via a recorded Zoom call. The recordings will be made available during the MACCS Scientific Exchange on November 22. CYIA finalists will have 8 minutes in which to present followed by 2 minutes for questions. FITs selected for the CYIA presentation will be notified on or after October 21, 2020, at which time they will also be provided with any further instructions and modifications.

Mid-Atlantic Poster Presentation Session

For those abstracts selected for the Mid-Atlantic Capital Poster Presentation there will be a dedicated page for PowerPoint virtual posters. FITs who qualify for the poster presentation will also be notified on or after October 21, 2020. A link to a dedicated Dropbox folder for uploading the virtual poster will be sent at this time.

The Mid-Atlantic CYIA and Capital Best Poster winners will be announced at the meeting from the eligible entries by a designated symposium committee.
